The IRHA Have Dismissed the “Bonkers” Truck Trial
The Irish Road Haulage Association have described the truck trial at an airfield as being bonkers. A total of 89 lorries arrived near Ramsgate in Kent early on Monday morning and they all lined up on the runway. They are then going to make the drive along the A256 all the way to Dover. The trial is called Operation Brock. They are testing out the site and they are also holding a huge holding bay as well. The idea of this is to try and ease some of the congested roads that lead to all of the channel ports. The IRHA President, is Verona Murphy.
She has stated that the trial itself is of no help and that it is totally frivolous as well. When you look at the fact that 89 trucks have no relation to the thousands of lorries that pass through there, you will soon find that it is very difficult to believe that this can make a difference.
Of course, if you work in driver recruitment or even as part of a driving agency, you will soon find that there are a lot of changes to be made and that more needs to be done in order to get people the support they need. That being said, any changes are going to be seen as good at the moment due to the amount of lorries that are on the road. New updates will be released as soon as they happen, and it is safe to say that a lot of people are depending on them. The roads are very congested at the moment and if nothing is done then the issue is only going to get worse. This is especially the case when you look at business in the area.
HGV Carbon Goals are Far Too Ambitious- Says ACEA
Those who work in driver recruitment or even in a driving agency will understand more than anyone how important it is to try and keep carbon emissions down. This is especially the case when you look at larger vehicles. There has however been some outrage from manufacturers throughout the EU because they are trying to claim that they are criticising the recommendations. They are also going against the advancements that have been made as well. The EU has demanded that the emissions need to be reduced by one third. A vote was held and the Environmental Committee needs to make mandatory cuts that are around 15%. This was done in 2025 and a voluntary reduction is going to be made by 2030 as well. This has been increased and a lot of people are outraged by this decision. They have also requested that 20% of all trucks need to have low emissions in an effort to try and cut down on emissions even more. ACEA have called the cuts stringent to say the least. They have also said that the proposed cut of 30% is challenging as it is, and now it has been increased even more, this is going to cause real problems.
The IAA show has been remembered for all of their advancements and this is especially the case when you look at the prototypes for a huge range of electric vehicles. When you look at the advancements that have been made, you will also see that there are going to be two more generations of HGVS with fuel engines and that these are going to be developed and even released onto the EU market in a very short space of time. Only time will tell whether the goals above are achieved.
The London Square Mile is going to be a Zero Emissions Zone
Those who work with a driving agency or even in driver recruitment will know more than anyone how much zero emission zones are changing. The City of London Corporation has various plans that will help them to reduce traffic by over 50%. They are also going to try and make London's district for business the very first zero emissions zone. Over the course of the next 10 years, the traffic is going to be lowered by a staggering 25% and that they also want to reach 50% by the year 2044. It has been confirmed that a lot of smaller zones are going to be applied up and down the city. This will be much different when compared to the congestion charge and even the low emission zone as well. When loaders are facing even more restrictions on top of this, it's safe to say that deliveries will be made on smaller, much more environmentally friendly vehicles as well.
The policy manager for vans and even urban transport is going to speak on the matter even further at a later date. He believes that the initial cost for buying electric vehicles is going to be reduced and that eventually it is going to become a very affordable and realistic option. Secondly, there is a sufficient charging infrastructure put into place. The FTA have noted that a proposal will also include a charging hub and that this is going to be done across the nation. This is another example of how the government's patchwork approach is trying to make a change. That being said, this is going to extend across the nation. Eventually, the people who work in the industry are hoping to make a difference but only time will tell.
No Deal is not Acceptable for FTA Ireland
Those who work in driver recruitment or even as a part of a driving agency will know how hard it is to keep up with the ever-changing Brexit scenario. The FTA has met up with the Prime Minister and they have delivered a very strong message. They believe that a no-deal Brexit is just not an option for the logistics industry. Leheny has commented by saying that the business group represents the best interests of the logistics sector. He is delighted to hear that they have been chosen to consult with the prime minister and it is a win for them as well. They have been trying for two years to make sure that the needs of the logistic industry is met and they are also trying to do whatever they can to make sure that they deliver a very fair outcome as well. They want to try and keep Britain trading as they believe that it is the heart and soul of the UK economy. The draft agreement for Brexit is not perfect to say the least and there is a lot that needs to be done in order to make sure that Ireland and even the rest of the UK gets the best possible deal.
It is a very positive step that is going to most certainly be in the right direction. They also want to give the FTA the chance to drill various points into the meeting. They want to get some answers regarding the agreement and they also want to try and take a step in the right direction for the UK. They also want to ask some pressing questions to the Prime Minister herself to make sure that they are not being subject to anything that is too fiscal.
RHA Doesn’t Want the M26 Motorway Plans to Affect Christmas
The M26 motorway in Kent is one of the busiest routes for haulers who are going to be travelling towards mainland Europe. It is going to be closed from 10pm until 5:30am, Monday to Friday. This could cause problems for those who work in driver recruitment or even a driving agency. The Brexit plan includes preparing this section of the motorway as a lorry park and that this is going to be for the port-bound freight traffic as well. This needs to be managed as much as possible because if it isn't then this could lead to severe disruption and even delays. This is especially the case when you look at the Eurotunnel and Dover.
The RHA chief Richard Burnett has stated that this diversion will mean that vehicles have to travel 10 miles extra between the M25 so that they can meet the M20 on the southbound. It is also a very strange route to take, but there is going to be a statement released on this that will hopefully explain everything. Over 10,000 lorries will lead to Dover every single day and at least half of those are going to be on the southern section. The likelihood of holdups ultimately mean that 5,000 trucks will create a bottleneck and this could lead to even more issues in the future. Richard also went on to say that Brexit has been a reality since the vote to leave the EU was taken. The contingency plan is to try and prepare for the worst but it is only 130 days until we leave. Why is work like this being left until the last minute? Who knows, but that being said, more needs to be done to try and make sure that lorry drivers are able to continue their route as normal.
Don-Bur has Assisted the John Lewis Partnership by Rebranding their Vehicle Fleet
Last month was very exciting to say the least. A new livery of the John Lewis partnership and even the Waitrose partnership as well unleashed their new fleet for the very first time. They did this from the Milton Keynes depot. The commercial branding has been created with the assistance of the Don-Bur service division. They have been working with them since 2017 and they have also worked with their design service as well which is known as Pentagram. The striking aesthetics have tied in with some of the many graphical elements and on top of this, many of their vehicles have been blasted and even resprayed as well. All of this has been done in preparation for the high contrast design and it also shows that they are trying to show some level of consistency across the brand as well. Those who work in driving jobs or even in HGV jobs will know this more than anyone. Some of their fleet include double deck trailers, tractors and even trucks that are based on electricity alone.
Sapphire Graphics are a division of Don-Bur and they have worked hard to try and provide their customers with all of the support services they need. They have also worked hard to try and make sure that they produce graphics that are of the highest quality as well. This is an arrangement that has ultimately meant they are within a close- knit partnership with John Lewis for quite some time. Chris Griffiths is the service director and he has commented saying that this really is a great opportunity. He believes that it gives Don-Bur the chance to work with a high-quality brand and that the forward thinking that is required is really going to help people to see that what they are trying to do is remarkable.
DAF XF Have Given an Extra Lift to the Askey Fleet
H. Askey Transport have taken a delivery for the DAF XF tractors and they also come with a single-mounted trailing axle as well. They even have a 38 5SP crane and this is designed to try and spread the capabilities to their entire Sheffield fleet. The operator has been described as a hailer and they are ready to handle just about anything. They have stated that they have vehicles and even ancillary equipment that is continually undergoing wide-load movements. They also have crane-assisted work and hazard material support as well. They have been acquired by PACCAR Financial and Rob Askey has declared himself very happy with the result. He is also very pleased with the backup and even the service that he has received from the dealer as well. Rob Askey has also stated that he is the sixth generation to work in the family and that he has a very strong and loyal customer base. He wants to try and do everything he can to meet the requirements of his customers and he is also trying to make sure that he changes things as much as he can.
The six-wheeler has been fully specified by the operator and he has also worked with he DAF Super Space cab as well. He has stated that you absolutely can't beat DAF cabs at all because they are able to offer some of the finest living space on the market. On top of that, they like to make sure that they always do everything they can to really give the people who they work with the best chance of succeeding and that is why so many people continually rely on them. Those who work in driving jobs or even in HGV jobs will know this more than anyone.
What’s the Oldest DAF Truck that’s In Operation Right Now?
DAF Trucks are looking to find the oldest truck that is still in transportation. The search is going to focus on the typical DAF vehicles that they have from the last couple of decades and they are also looking for ones that run on a day to day basis as well. operators and even drivers are being invited to try and share their trucking experience on the DAF Truck Facebook page as well and this is incredible to say the least.
The main reason for this is because they are going to be celebrating their 90th anniversary this year. The company have also focused on the construction of lightweight semi-trailers and they have also achieved quite a reputation for being leaders in terms of fuel efficiency as well. They also specialise in driver comfort and this is ideal if you work in HGV jobs or if you work in offshore jobs as well. The DAF are going to receive images from their operators and even their drivers from all around the world. They have shown trucks that have left the production line and ones that are still in use every single day. They have triggered DAF Trucks' own interest and they are also on a campaign to try and find the oldest truck in operation. They are looking at the eighties and the nineties but it is possible that they are going to be looking at the seventies as well so they can try and find ones that are still in operation. Of course, only time will tell how the whole thing unfolds but for now it is certainly interesting to see how the whole thing is going to work out and even whether or not they are able to find the oldest one as well.
Apparently Equinor is Eyeing up a Windfarm so they can Power their Offshore Platforms
Equinor is a Norwegian gas and oil major. They have said on Tuesday that both them and their partners on the Snorre and Gullfaks fields are going to try and explore the possibility of having a floating offshore windfarm. They are also going to try and supply their gas and oil platforms with super clean energy. The concept comprises of a windfarm that has 11 wind turbines. These are all going to be based on the wind concept and it is also going to have an 88 megawatt turbine. They are going to meet 35% of the annual demand for power and they are also going to meet 5 different platforms as well. This includes Snorre B and A and then Gullfacks B, C and A. They have come out to say that if they are able to reduce the use of gas turbines by supplying platforms with power then this would be done in an offshore wind account. This is a challenging solution but it may actually help to bring about new opportunities for Equinor, Norway and even other countries. It would even provide renewable energy while gas and oil production would be boosted. They would enable low gas and Co2 emissions and even Equinor have come out to say that the project is going to come to around 5 billion Kronor. This would provide a ton of green and renewable energy and it would also be funded so that new projects can be created as well.
This is a very positive movement and it just goes to show that when the work is put in, everything is will come together just fine. Of course, only time will tell if any other movements happen but this is interesting if you work in HGV jobs or even in offshore jobs.
Volvo Trucks are Completely Dedicated to the Environment, Quality and Safety
Those who work in driver recruitment or even in driving recruitment will understand the quality that Volvo trucks have to offer. They entered the UK market in 1967 and ever since then, they have provided an exceptional experience to all of those who work in commercial industries. They are also completely dedicated to safety, the environment and even quality as well. On top of this, they are considered to be one of the finest truck manufacturers in the world and they have a huge range of models available.
The FH range is their very own heavyweight truck and this is available in a huge range of chassis options. They have been awarded the most powerful truck for production and this award only goes to one manufacturer in the whole of Europe. They believe that monitoring and maintaining a truck is essential to success. That is why Volvo have made it so that users can determine the exact location of any truck and even the driver as well. This means that companies can improve their service to gain access to a much higher level of profitability and this is all thanks to the Dynafleet technology.
Volvo know more than anyone that they need to maximise the amount of time that a truck can stay up and running for. They are truly working to meet the needs of commercial businesses, but this isn't just for the present, because it is for the future as well. They also want to try and minimise the amount of time that customers are disrupted and they have some of the finest mechanics working with them as well. For this reason, it is no surprise that they are constantly expanding and making all of the right moves, because whatever they are doing is certainly paying off.
